Christian Education at FUMC
At Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, we offer a large and varied Christian Educational experience, from Disciple Bible studies, to Pastor led studies, to educational experiences for those new to the faith, or just seeking a better understanding. Pastor's Bible Study
PASTOR’S BIBLE STUDY, Wednesdays, 6:40 p.m.
This is your opportunity to jump into Bible Study! No prerequisite or preparation is necessary. Pastor Larry will lead a large group presentation in Kobler Hall. Participants will be organized into tables for discussion, small group and prayer. Journey with the same table each week. Groups will conclude at 7:30 p.m. (Unless you are exceptionally lively, in which case you are on your own!). We will start with Genesis and work our way through the Bible. Newcomers may come and pick up the study at any time. If you have never been in a Bible Study before and feel a little intimidated, this is a great place to begin. A youth table is being planned. Children’s programming (K-5th grade) will take place concurrently. Nursery is also provided. Come. Engage. Connect. Grow. See you there.
FUMC Preschool Registration
Registration opens to the general public on February 6. Call the Preschool Office (540-899-3172) to schedule a tour of our program and see the Preschool in action!
Fellowship Dinner
Wednesday Night Fellowship Dinners are from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Grocery shopping and food preparation depend on guest reservations–Sign up by Monday of each week on the bulletin board outside of the church workroom or contact Lisa Earnesty at earnesty@ verizon.net. Contact Lisa Earnesty to have your name placed on the standing list of weekly dinners. No previous lists will be honored. This assumes that you plan to attend each week unless you call the church office by Monday to cancel. There is no price increase this year. We need to have an accurate count for food preparation. Adults - $6.00, children - $3.00 for ages 3-10, under 3 is free. Total for a family - $20.00 (2 adults plus children ages 12 and under). Tickets are sold for take-out meals; present them when requesting this meal. All offers of help with clean-up gratefully accepted!
The menu for February 8th: Stuffed Pork Chops, Sweet Potato Casserole, Green Beans, Salad, Fruit, and Dessert.
UMYF Youth Group
Youth “Souper Sunday” event February 5 at Shirley’s house. Watch the Superbowl on a big screen TV, or watch an alternative movie if football isn’t your “thing”, snack, and hang out. Each youth should bring a can of soup to donate to the FUMC food pantry and a snack to share with the group. Shirley will provide drinks and paper products. Party begins at 6:00 p.m. and goes until the end of the game. Brian will drive Godspell rehearsal participants from the church to Shirley’s house, but you will need to catch a ride home. Drop-off and pick-up for all other youth at Shirley’s house (carpooling encouraged)!
The Fredericksburg District Youth Council announces their first-ever winter retreat March 2-4 at Blackstone UM Assembly Center. The keynote speaker is Jason Stanley, and we will rock in worship with the musical talents of The Eleventh Hour. We will explore the question Why? And Super Heroes. To register, complete a youth covenant of conduct form, parental consent form, and write a check to FUMC for $120. Cost includes food, lodging, T-shirt, and “special stuff”. Registration deadline is January 29.
Merry Makers 5th Annual Valentine's Luncheon

Details: The chef is Mary Jordan. The music is led by the director of Jazz Studies at UMW. This jazz ensemble will present a survey of jazz from the early days through swing, bebop, the 50's and 60's to today’s fusion, the funky side of jazz. Great Food and Great Entertainment! Who could ask for anything more!
Mission Trip
Tabernacle UMC and Fredericksburg, VA are teaming up with Northridge UMC, Northridge, CA on a mission trip to Costa Rica scheduled for February 18-26, 2012 (www.costaricamissionprojects.com).This is a construction team traveling for the purpose of constructing a Parsonage in La Bonita de Changuena. A church and Sunday school building have already been built on the site. The estimated cost of the trip at this time is $1,600.00 to $1,800.00 per person. The Mad Hatter Tea
The Arc of Rappahannock is sponsoring it’s 5th Annual Mad Hatter Tea on February 19th in Kobler Hall from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Please join us for Tea, Food and Entertainment! Tickets are $25.00 for one, $35.00 with a guest. Tickets may be purchased in advance from Betty Monroe, (540) 373-1591, or Matt Zurasky (540) 373-9433, Board members of the ARC. Tickets will also be available at the door. The Tea supports individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities have “A Life Like Yours.”
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
February 21, 5:00-7:00 p.m., Kobler Hall.
All-you-can-eat buttermilk and blueberry pancakes and sausage! Donations will be gratefully accepted. In addition to the boy scouts, cub scouts and girl scouts, there will be activities for children, making Mardi Gras masks, live music with Spike Burton and his band, and Bob LaChance showing everyone how to dance Cajun style! Stop Hunger Now
FUMC Families, we will once again be participating in our “at home” mission with STOP HUNGER NOW! We will package the meals on Sunday, February 26, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., for third world countries! Adults and youth signing up to volunteer are asked to raise donations for the cost of the packaging. It costs $7,500 to “purchase” the supplies to put together 30,000 bags of food. We invite those packaging to commit to raising the goal of $40 per worker. We also encourage others who are unable to package to partner with us to reach our $7,500 commitment to feed those in need. You will receive your donation envelope when you sign up. We are going to try a new online volunteer sign up through Stop Hunger Now, more information to come! We will also need some strong arms to carry in the supplies to set up in the morning! Look for more updates and information in the weekly yellow pages.

The Saturday 5:30 p.m. and the Sunday 9:45 a.m. services will be held in the Sanctuary that weekend.
Annual Spiritual Growth Retreat
On Saturday, March 3, the Fredericksburg United Methodist Women will host their 17th Annual Spiritual Growth Retreat in Kobler Hall with fellowship and light breakfast snacks beginning at 8:30 a.m. The main program will be from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., led by Rev. Barbara Jacobs: “The Gift of Sharing” - John 3:16-21. Lunch will be prepared by Mary Jordan. The cost is $15.00 (registration deadline is February 29). Mark your calendar and invite a friend or two. Child care will be provided upon request. Sign-up sheets will be available in early February at the Welcome desk outside Kobler Hall or the receptionist’s desk inside the Charlotte Street entrance. You may also register online at ddavis@cowboykens.com. In case of bad weather, we will move it to March 10.
